Diplomats of the Embassy of Finland in Russia – Minister Plenipotentiary, Adviser Merja Lahtinen and Second Secretary Ilona Vihonen – visited the Mari El Republic.

Finnish diplomats met with the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Mari El Republic, with deputies ministers of Education and Science; Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism; Culture, Press and Ethnic Affairs of the Mari El Republic, with Rector and students of the Mari State University.

Meeting participants discussed the prospects for the development of cooperation between the Republic of Mari El and the Republic of Finland in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

Finnish diplomats visited cultural institutions of Yoshkar-Ola and Kozmodemyansk (museums, theaters, philharmonic hall).

The Days of National Cultures «Lessons of Friendship» (nine thematic events) dedicated to the culture and traditions of the peoples living in the Mari El Republic (Azerbaijanis, Armenians, Mari, Tajiks, Tatars, Udmurts, Ukrainians, Chuvash and peoples of Dagestan) were held in Yoshkar-Ola.

The Federal National Cultural Autonomy «Mari People of Russia» and the Republican Mari Culture Center of the Mari El Republic organized the events.

The exhibition «Craft - the golden breadwinner» dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Gornomari district of the Mari El Republic was opened in Yoshkar-Ola.

Ethnographic objects of the mountain Mari were presented at the exhibition. Natives of the Gornomari district living currently in the regions of Russia and foreign countries – Austria, Malaysia, the USA, Turkey, and Estonia – sent videos about ethnographic subjects.

The Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Yoshkar-Ola together with students of the Mari State University held an action «UN Charter is our rules». The main objectives of this action are to draw attention to the need to comply with the UN Charter.

Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Yoshkar-Ola Larisa Polushina met with the member of the Board of the International Farmers Association (Paysans de Monde, France), project coordinator for Russia Anna Panchishcheva and Chairman of the Association of Regional Agricultural Producers Sergey Arhin to discuss prospects for the implementation of projects for the development of agrotourism in the Republic of Mari El, activation of interregional cooperation with France.

Deputy Mayor of Yoshkar-Ola Nadezhda Loginova and Head of the Tourist Information Center of Yoshkar-Ola Maria Ivanova took part in the meeting.

The exhibition of pictures by an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts Izmail Efimov was opened in Yoshkar-Ola. The master’s paintings are kept in museum collections in Russia, Hungary, Spain, Finland, Switzerland, and Estonia.

The international Olympiad «Fire of Friendship» for foreign students studying at the Mari State University was held in Yoshkar-Ola.

7 teams of students from Afghanistan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan took part in the sports competition.

The meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Mari El and the Agency for Investment and Development of Pridnestrovie of the Republic of Moldova was held in the video conference format at the suggestion of the Moldovan side.

Prospects for the development of cooperation between Mari El and Pridnestrovie in the tourism sphere were discussed during the meeting.

The Interregional Forum «Territory of Consent» held in the Republic of Mari El. Representatives of cultural centers, national and cultural autonomies, including foreign diasporas, journalists and bloggers writing on interethnic topics took part in the forum.

Meeting with representatives of the company «Polimerkonstruktsiya» (Vitebsk city, Belarus) was held in the Ministry of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Mari El. Modern technologies of industrial water treatment and water treatment equipment of the Belarusian enterprise were presented during the meeting.

Oleg Isaev, head of the Kazan branch of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, accompanied the Belarusian delegation. Prospects for the development of cooperation between the Republic of Mari El and Turkmenistan in the trade, economic and humanitarian spheres were discussed during the meeting.

Atadurdy Bayramov met with the leadership of the Mari State University. The sides discussed the development of cooperation: joint projects, exchange of students, mutual visits of the teachers of the universities of the Republic of Mari El and Turkmenistan.

The VII International Finno-Ugric Students’ Forum «Wealth of Finno-Ugric peoples» organized by the Mari State University by support of the Association of Students and Postgraduates of Finno-Ugric Universities and the Ministry of Culture, Press and Interethnic Relations of the Republic of Mari El took place in Yoshkar-Ola.

More than 200 students and postgraduates from 5 Finno-Ugric regions of the Russian Federation (republics of Mari El, Komi, Mordovia, Udmurtia, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra) took part in the forum.

Representatives of the Volga State University of Technology from the Republic of Mari El took part in the XIX International Educational Exhibition «Education and Profession» in the cities of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Representatives of 23 universities from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan took part in the exhibition.

First Secretary of the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Kazan Azizbek Razakov visited the Republic of Mari El.

The V All-Russian scientific-practical conference «International Humanitarian Cooperation: New Challenges and Opportunities» organized by the assistance of the Representation of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Yoshkar-Ola and by the support of the Association of Russian Diplomats took place in MarSU in Yoshkar-Ola.

Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Yoshkar-Ola Larisa Polushina presented the report «International humanitarian cooperation of the Russian Federation in 2019-2020» at the plenary session of the conference, gave as a gift the book-album «Своих не бросаем» («We do not abandon our own») prepared by the TASS news agency and the Russian Foreign Ministry to the organizers of the conference.

Representatives of Russian universities from Yoshkar-Ola, Arkhangelsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, and Tehran (Islamic Republic of Iran) took place in the conference.

Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Yoshkar-Ola Larisa Polushina took part in the session of the Council to the Head of the Mari El Republic on Interaction with Religious Associations.

Issues of the implementation of measures to prevent manifestations of ethnic and religious extremism in the youth environment of the Mari El Republic in 2020, influence of international processes on the activities of religious organizations and on the state of interreligious relations in the Republic of Mari El, and the work plan of the Council for 2021 were considered at the session.

The film «The illegal film» (Germany) was presented at the Mari State University in the framework of the Days of scientific cinema of the Festival of Contemporary Scientific Cinema FANK.

The Days of scientific cinema FANK are held in Russian cities in the framework of the Year of Germany in Russia 2020/2021, which is organized by the German Embassy in Russia, the Goethe-Institut, and the Russian-German Foreign Trade Chamber.

The first meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation between the Republic of Mari El and the Republic of Belarus, chaired by Stanislav Krylov, Minister of Industry, Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Mari El, and Andrei Khmel, Minister of Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Belarus, was held in video conference mode.

Prospects for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic of Mari El and the Republic of Belarus in various spheres were discussed, mutual proposals for further expansion of trade and economic relations were presented, the action plan for the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Mari El and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation from 12.10.2018 was approved during the event.

On the eve of the Diplomatic workers’ day the Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in Yoshkar-Ola and the Department of Intercultural Communication of the Institute of National Culture and Intercultural Communication of the Mari State University announced the III International Olympiad «Diplomacy for Peace» dedicated to the Diplomatic workers’ day among school pupils of educational institutions of the states-participants of the CIS.

The contest works will be accepted until March 20, 2021. The results of the competition will be announced on April 1, 2021.
